and I need to stay in Chicago for another 3 months. So do you have advices except for craigslist? Thanks!
You can ask your landlord. Sometimes they let you go on a 3 month lease, or a month to month for more money, sometimes up to like $100 more a month. BUT you wouldn’t have to move and moving costs and hassle would be more than that. Ask.. They might be happy that you are willing to stay pay more money and give them more time to find another tenant.
But to answer your question yes there are still places that rent month to month for…. more money.
GIVE YOUR NOTICE that you will not be renewing your lease as of…XX-XX-XXXX but ask instead for a month to month for three months after that.

Contact your existing landlord and see if you can stay on for another 3 months – you don’t have to move just because your lease is up.

Most landlords expect a one year commitment on a lease, although I have heard of some allowing for 6 month leases. Once you’ve fulfilled your contractual obligation it becomes easier to negotiate ADDITIONAL months on a month by month basis.
If your landlord will not negotiate 2 additional months for you, you might want to network with people you know and see if anyone could use a temporary roommate.

Its not really based on what ads you look for. In bigger cities most landlords will want you to sign a lease. Thats how it was in all of the big cities I have lived in. Where I live now, no one does leases, its all month to month.
You should be able to stay in your current apartment after the lease is up. Most places will just go month to month when the lease expires. Your landlord may raise your rent or ask you to sign a new lease, but you can just explain that you need to stay for 1 more month and they will probably let you.
When your lease expires and you only have 1 month left, just be sure to turn in your 30 days notice with your last month’s rent.

Talk to your current landlord first, because most leases go to a month to month when they expire.
Other than that you just have to find a landlord offering that option.
