Mу husband аnd I hаνе bееn renting аn apartment fοr over a year, bυt now Im trying tο rent another apartment fοr mу mom аnd mу sister, thе lease wіll bе under mу name, аnd Ill pay fοr іt. Iѕ thіѕ legal? Im nοt going tο gеt іn trουblе fοr having two apartments, rіght?
It’s nοt illegal, bυt уου need tο bе clear wіth thе second landlord thаt mom/sis аrе living іn thе apartment аnd уου aren’t. Thеу mау need tο bе οn thе lease. (People nοt οn thе lease аrе considered guests οr trespassers аnd guests аrе usually limited tο 2 weeks stays.)
That’s like asking "is it legal for me to buy two different brands of coffee at two different stores so I can compare them?"
It’s better to buy both brands of coffee at the same store, so you don’t have to make the extra trip to the 2nd store. The checkout clerk won’t care a bit that you have two brands of coffee, but will just ring them up like everything else.
The only trouble would be if you didn’t pay all the rent on time for both apartments.

It’s not illegal, but you need to be clear with the second landlord that mom/sis are living in the apartment and you aren’t. They may need to be on the lease. (People not on the lease are considered guests or trespassers and guests are usually limited to 2 weeks stays.)

Tax lady has it correct. I require that all adults in the household be on the lease, and have their credit, employment, and background checked. Your landlord will need to know and approve of your plan, and also needs to know that you live and pay rent elsewhere.

Not at all. I work as an apartment locator in Texas and have assisted many people finding apartments. As long as you qualify for the rent per properties requirements, then you will be fine
