Well, it depends on the language of the so-called "gift affidavit." The words "gift affidavit" mean nothing. What you will be signing is some sort of contract, so it all depends on what the terms of the "contract" are. If the contract is that you will be "guarantor," then you are responsible for whatever rent you daughter is legally obligated to pay, but fails to pay.

If you can afford it, offer to pay additional deposit and/or last month’s rent up front. That will give the landlord more security if you fall behind or have other problems. As long as you have steady income that’s at least twice the amount of the rent, try smaller or older complexes. Sometimes they are less strict.

It depends on what type of payment the apartment rental office will let you use to pay. I can’t imagine that you wouldn’t be allowed to use a credit card-but check with them first.

Major credit card companies like Visa or Mastercard WILL let you use the card to pay rent. They want you to use it as often as possible.

Before you start to pay using a credit card you will have to CANCEL the automatic withdrawal from your bank account.Otherwise you’ll pay twice and getting that ‘fixed’ will be a major hassle.

It’s smart to use a cc that gives rewards as long as you pay the balance in full every month.

It is only legal if you have a contract with the actual owner approving it.

It will not work out so well though, as you will have to pay income tax on the full amount of rent you collect, and you do not get any write offs because you don’t own squat. Only the owner gets to write off the mortgage. Unless you can rent it for more then the rent you pay plus federal income tax plus your state income tax you will be out of pocket with this brilliant idea.

As long as you have a creditable co-signer, no criminal background, don’t owe or have any outstanding utility bills, and meet whatever the income requirement is then you should be fine…Just be sure to explain your situation withe the leasing agent they should let you know if you should take the time and pay the app fee….

the local newspapers are always a good idea. The Spanish aren’t too up on their websites so the ones that are there are normally set up by expats and they charge UK prices. Your best bet is to go out and book a hotel for two weeks and sort it out when you get there. The one advantage to Spanish rentals is that they normally sort them out quickly although if you don’t have a job they may ask for proof that you can afford the rent and also at least a months deposit. Also you will pay more in the big holiday resorts than you do out of them. Palma isn’t cheap and also what the Spanish sometimes do is charge you more in summer and then less in winter. You need to be there to find the bargains and you may not find a real gem straight away but don’t give up good luck on your move

If I have a primary residence in MT (Montana) but I have an apartment in ND (North Dakota) where I stay while I work in ND….. is the rent on the ND (non primary residence) tax deductible? I only have the apartment because that is where my job has me work the most.

No it is not. You choose where you work, therefore you do not get any tax deductions for going to your regular place of employment. If your work sent you to SD for a month as a temporary assignment, THAT rent would be deductible. Since you choose to live in MT and work in ND, you get nothing.
